Outside The Chute sits down and chats with Canadian Women's National Team Head Coach, Mark Smith.
Mark is an absolute legend when it comes to the game of Fastpitch and he is inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame, ISC Hall of Fame and the Sport Nova Scotia Hall of Fame.
Mark’s accomplishments are extensive. He was the first player to ever throw a no hitter in Pan Am Games history in 1979, won back to back ISC World Titles in 81 and 82 with the Camarillo Kings, led Team Canada to an ISF World Series of Softball Championship in the Philippines in 1992 as well as captured that illusive Gold Medal at the 1998 Canadian Senior Men’s Nationals with the Halifax Jaguars in his final season of playing.
We’re going to talk to Mark about all of these accomplishments, as well as getting his start in the game on the Halifax Commons, having a tryout with the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball and now trying to lead the Canadian Woman’s National Team to a Gold Medal at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Mark was such a treat to talk to really shows why he such an ambassador to the game of Fastpitch.
