Need to retrain truck drivers who’ll lose jobs to self-driving vehicles – Clune

It may seem like something from a sci-fi movie, but soon we may find ourselves driving alongside a vehicle that doesn’t have anyone behind the wheel.

The move to develop self-driving cars and trucks is gathering momentum. According to the European Parliament driverless vehicles will be on the market from twenty twenty.

MEPs in Strasbourg today voted for a range of proposals aimed at governing the use of driverless vehicles.

The Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune, who sits on the European Parliament’s Transport Committee, says something will also have to be done to help retrain truck drivers who’ll lose their jobs because of the growth of autonomous technologies.
