Market Close 31 Jan 22: Market treads water ahead of RBA meeting

The Australian sharemarket fell slightly for a fifth time in six days, with the ASX 200 slipping by 0.24%. Investors remained cautious ahead of the RBA's first meeting of the year, a key speech by Governor Lowe and highly anticipated forecasts. January marked the worst start to a year since 2008 for the local market.
