US Close 5 Mar 17: US slightly stronger all eyes on the lift in coal and oil.

Key US sharemarket indices traded on both sides of the unchanged line on Tuesday. US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet for talks over Thursday and Friday. And key jobs data is released on Friday. The Dow Jones index rose by 39 points or 0.2% after trading in a 96-point range. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.1% while the Nasdaq rose by 4 points or 0.1%.

The Reserve Bank has left the cash rate at a record low of 1.50 per cent for the eighth straight month. The Reserve Bank has maintained its “neutral stance” – meaning rate hikes are as likely as rate cuts in the period ahead.
