Should a company HAVE to interview you if they‘ve asked you to build a lengthy take-home project?

All companies interview differently. Some will only do on-site coding, some will do a big take-home challenge, some will be a hybrid of both. Should a company be OBLIGATED to interview you if they ask you to build a large or lengthy take-home assignment?
