We open our service with song. Pastor Gail welcomies all to worship and to participate in the life of our church family. Pastor Gail and Luisa Fernandez call us to worship with a responsive reading Psalms 95 and 100. Luisa centers us with an opening prayer. In her sermon, “Following Jesus to the Mountaintop,” Pastor Gail uses the story of the Transfiguration in Mark 9 where Jesus takes Peter, John, and James to a mountaintop. There they see Jesus conversing with Moses and Elijah, who both had encounters with God on Mt. Sinai. The disciples are overwhelmed and uncertain what to make of this revelation, but Jesus reassures them not to fear. But as happened with Moses and Elijah, this mountaintop experience is followed by the hard work of doing what God wants us to do. In Jesus’s life this meant the crucifixion. Yet because of the Resurrection, we too can be transformed and empowered to follow God’s direction in our lives and show his love to others.

Pastor Gail then leads us in the sacrament of communion, and you are invited to participate as well.
