AM Report 14 Sep 18: US stocks end higher led by tech names

US sharemarkets were firmer on Thursday. Shares in Apple rose by 2.4%, igniting gains across tech stocks. China and the US remained open to the possibility of new trade talks but President Trump said he felt no pressure to make a deal. Shares in Kroger fell by 9.9% after the supermarket chain's same-store sales missed estimates. Shares in Qualcomm rose by 45 after the chipmaker said it would buy back about $16 billion of its stock. The Dow Jones index rose by 147 points or 0.6% after being up by 193 points. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.5% and the Nasdaq rose by 59.5 points or 0.8%.
