Matthew 24:22 & Acts 26:14

What did Jesus mean in Matthew 24:22 about the days being cut short and what did Paul mean in Acts when he talked about kicking against the goads? NOTE: this was recorded when I was still on staff with CBI; we're now in West Bend, WI.
