Dr. Elizabeth King and Yvonne Haase kick off International Women's Month with an interview with one of the panelist for the Lead Out Loud...Women Empowering Women Virtual Summit.  Melissa shares her passion for making NYC a more just and equitable city and empowering women.

Melissa is an equity-centered activist and intersectional social justice champion with a +20 year success record of fiercely advocating for diverse communities at the local and national levels. Her career has been defined by a series of firsts including being the first person of Latino heritage, first person of color, and first Puerto Rican woman to serve as Speaker of New York City Council where she presided over 51 Council Members and negotiated a $72 billion annual budget.
