- “The Time Came” (vs6a)
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die,” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)
- It was time for Immanuel- “God is with us” to be born.
* Isaiah prophesied 700 BC- “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)
*The Angel spoke to Joseph- "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us"). (Matthew 1:23)
“God Is Never Late; He's Seldom Early; He’s Always Right on Time”
- “She (Mary) placed him (Jesus) in a manger.” (Vs7)
The conditions from a human standpoint were less han desirable.
- Mary and Joseph were living in the city of Nazareth, 80 miles to the north of Bethlehem. (“As a crow flies”) Today the paved road is 96 miles.
- It is most likely, Mary being nine months pregnant, rode on the back of a donkey or walked all the way to Bethlehem.
- They were commanded by the Roman government to go at this time to Bethlehem to register for the purpose of paying their taxes.
- Mary and Joseph found Bethlehem crowded with people to the point that there were no vacancies available.
- Mary gave birth to Jesus in a cave/barn like dwelling. (There were no hospitals or birthing centers.)
- However, the conditions from God’s standpoint were perfect!
- Jesus was born in the place and conditions that the prophets foretold.
Micah prophesied in 700BC, "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." (Micah 5:2)
- Jesus was intentionally given a humble birth. (Read 1 Corinthians 1:20-31)
“Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
- Jesus was not born in a palace but a stable so that he could understand struggles and heartache of the ordinary person like you and me. (Read about our High Priest in Hebrews 4:14-16)
III. God’s Timing and Plans are Always Perfect..
- Put your trust in the Author and Perfector of our Faith, Jesus Christ!
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
