Coach Akey and the Burlington Greyhounds opened the season with a 59-42 conference win over Mount Pleasant, debuting a newly replaced gym floor and an energetic, fast-paced style.
Sophomore Jet Morris led the way with 31 points in his season debut, while Keyshawn Wilden and Michael Gonzalez made key contributions on both ends. Burlington’s pressure defense forced 23 turnovers and set the tone despite fouling more than usual.
The team faces a packed schedule next, with quick turnarounds against Muscatine, Ottumwa and Iowa City West as Burlington looks to build on a strong start.
