In Galatians 5:16 the Apostle Paul gives a command and a promise.The command is that believers walk by the Spirit. The promise is that in so doing believers will no longer gratify the desires of the flesh. The result of walking by the Spirit is that you will deny the flesh victory in your life; you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
