Market Close 18 Oct 22: ASX 200 surges by 1.7%

The Australian sharemarket surged by 1.7%, which was enough to recoup Monday’s declines thanks to gains across 10 of 11 sectors. Gold miner St Barbara (SBM) fell most, slumping by 21% after equipment availability contributed to lower production, while costs surged by close to 70%.
