For the first English chapter of this show, I went for a winter morning walk through the trashy suburbs of Manchester, with my friend Martin. We walked on moody pats filled with litter, talking about how the throw away culture has changed British society, about how some of his neighbours are dealing with the lockdown life and about the motivations that drive people's decision to learn either English or French. We end up ramping against the struggles that teachers face these days, trying to engage students by video calls and forced to adapt their skills to the framework determined by technology. All of this with sporadic comments about the British accent, of course.
