Humility Not Humiliation! With Brian Keating

Brian G. Keating is a Professor of physics at the C enter for Astrophysics & Space Sciences (CASS) in the Department of Physics at the University of California, San Diego where he leads the Ax Center For Experimental Cosmology (ACEC). He is also Associate Director of the Arthur Clarke Center for Human Imagination.

No stranger to extreme conditions, Professor Keating’s experiment, BICEP, was located at the South Pole and received worldwide attention when it (prematurely) announced what was considered one of the greatest discoveries of all time: evidence for the so-called Theory of Inflation. This episode, and its aftermath, became the subject of his first popular science book called Losing the Nobel Prize: A Story of Cosmology, Ambition ,and the Perils of Science's Highest Honor, published by W. W. Norton. Upon its release, Losing the Nobel Prize won numerous accolades, including being named one of Amazon’s Best Nonfiction Books of the Month (April 2018) and one of Forbe's Magazine’s Best Books of the Year. Professor Keating is a renowned public speaker, inventor, and an expert in the study of the universe. He is also fascinated by the origins of human curiosity, creativity, and the genesis of imagination. He is the co-director of the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination He is a commercially licensed, multi-engine jet pilot and aviation enthusiast. He volunteers as a pilot for Angel Flight West,providing free air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other needs. He is a Board Member of the Fleet Science Center, the San Diego Air & Space Museum, and is active in the San Diego Jewish Community. He lives in La Jolla California with his wife and children.
