She began her career as a drug and alcohol counselor working with inpatient as well as outpatient populations, then combined counseling skills with her work in health promotion.
She was the Director of both the Women’s Center and the Health Education office at the University of Hartford from 1999-2006, where she currently still teaches gender and sexuality courses part-time. Dr. Dischiavo had a private marriage and family therapy practice from 1996-2013, working with individuals, families and partners.
She has a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Doctor of Education in Human Sexuality, and is an AASECT Certified Sex Educator Supervisor. She published a book in 2015 called “The Deep Yes: The Lost Art of True Receiving.”
