The 13th century has often been called he greatest of the centuries because by that time, the Church had civilized all the nations in Europe. The kings and rulers of these nations were united under he spiritual guidance of the Pope. It was a time when Kings as well as peasants obeyed the laws of God and man. Some of the 13th century sovereigns lived such devout lives that they became Saints. We do not hear of many rulers becoming Saints in our day.
