Meet award-winning Brazilian multidisciplinary artist, puppeteer, singer, actress, and director Nina Vogel. Her approach to puppetry and art has a strong spiritual influence inherited from both her indigenous Guarani and Tikuna ancestry. Her work has been performed all over the world and she is the creator and performer of Peter and the Wolf part of 2022 RUTAS Festival.
Peter and the Wolf, the classic story and music by Sergei Prokofiev, bursts to life with glorious puppets crafted in ateliers in Brazil. Created by master craftsmen and artist Nina Vogel, from the very musical instruments featured in the symphony, the visually stunning costume from which the puppets appear and disappear delights children with an unforgettable performance as they experience the fable for the first time. Supported by Toronto’s Euphonia Chamber Ensemble with Musical Direction by award-winning Conductor, Composer and Pianist Maziar Heidari, Nina Vogel presents this ingenious and beautiful spectacle with an accompanying short film, ANIMA, which takes the audience on the fantastical journey that Nina Vogel followed to create this contemporary interpretation of Peter & the Wolf.
Our co-host for this episode is a queer Brazilian-Canadian playwright and writer, producer, performer, and director from Tkaronto, Yago Mesquita. He creates slice-of-life-made-surreal character-driven work from a young, queer, first-generation Canadian lens, heavily informed by his experience and that of friends, family, and fellow artists.

En este episodio, conversamos con una galardonada artista multidisciplinaria, titiritera, cantante, actriz y directora brasileña, Nina Vogel. Su acercamiento a los títeres y al arte tiene una fuerte influencia espiritual heredada de su ascendencia indígena Guaraní y Tikuna. Su trabajo ha sido presentado alrededor del mundo. Nina es la creadora e intérprete de Pedro y el Lobo parte del Festival RUTAS 2022.
Pedro y el lobo, la clásica historia y música de Sergei Prokofiev, estalla en vida con hermosos títeres hechos en talleres en Brasil. Creada por la maestra artesana y artista Nina Vogel, desde los instrumentos musicales destacados en la sinfonía, el asombroso vestuario de donde aparecen y desaparecen los títeres que deleitan a los niños con una interpretación inolvidable mientras experimentan la fábula por primera vez. Acompañada por el grupo de Toronto Euphonia Chamber con conductor Maziar Heidari, Nina Vogel presenta su ingenio y bello espectáculo acompañada del cortometraje ANIMA, que transporta al público en el viaje fantástico de Nina Vogel para crear esta interpretación contemporánea de Pedro y el lobo.

Nuestro coanfitrión de este episodio es un dramaturgo, escritor, productor, actor y director queer brasileño-canadiense de Tkaronto, Yago Mesquita.
