With an overwhelming amount of news coming from mainstream media, blogs and social media, Jim Newton, a former LA Times Editor at Large and professor of Public Policy at UCLA, joined us for an IVY Ideas Night. Among many other topics, he touches on the evolving industry of journalism, using insights from his experience and personal journey. Though social media and blogs are essential to mainstream media succeeding, he claims nothing can take the place of true reporting, as there is a difference between fact and opinion. That being said, they must coexist in order for the other to be successful.
