1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (Colossians 3:1-4)
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. (1 John 5:1-5)
I wonder if there have been times since you became a Christian Disciple, there were times when you doubted whether or not you are God’s child or not. You have admitted that you have done wrong against God and His ways. Secondly, you believe and trust in Jesus. You have called on Him, received, trusted, obeyed and worshipped Him, recognizing Him for who He is and what He has done. You have confessed Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Because of this confession, belief and trust, you are a Christian Disciple.
But whether it’s a little while after or a long time ago since that decision, you don’t feel saved. You still feel condemned and unassured, not feeling spiritual or sometimes question privately that you even have a new life. It happens to the best! Even the Apostle Paul experienced this when faced with a crisis when in Corinth (1 Corinthians 2). It is true that emotions and feelings have a part to play in your salvation. When you experience the enjoyment of a quiet inner confidence that only comes from the Spirit, when you became a follower of Jesus – that is feeling and emotion.
