An overwhelming majority of MEPs today adopted a resolution officially laying down the European Parliament’s key principles and conditions for its approval of the UK's withdrawal agreement. The resolution contains several references to Ireland. It states that the Parliament is ‘especially concerned’ about the consequences of a UK withdrawal on Northern Ireland and its future relations with Ireland. And it says that it is crucial to safeguard peace and preserve the Good Friday Agreement. The Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes says the references to Ireland in the document are extremely important.
