Georgetown Update: $25M Nursing Gift, Campus Expansions, Common App Pilot, Student Advocacy, and Fall Sports Highlights

Exciting news for our nursing community: the Berkley Family Foundation has generously donated $25 million to the School of Nursing. In recognition of this gift, the school will be renamed the Berkley School of Nursing starting this fall. The donation will fund scholarships, support student well-being, and enhance simulation-based learning technologies. In residential updates, Henle Village is set to open this month. The new complex features apartment-style living, in-unit laundry, and communal spaces like a kitchen, prayer and meditation room, and game room. Additionally, the university hotel will undergo renovations beginning this fall to modernize its facilities, including 146 guest rooms and expanded event spaces. Looking ahead, Georgetown will pilot the Common Application starting in August 2026 for the Fall 2027 entering class. This initiative aims to make the application process more accessible and attract a diverse range of applicants. The university will continue to accept its current application as well. The Georgetown University Student Association has launched the "Save Georgetown Day" petition, advocating for reforms to the 2025 policies surrounding the annual celebration. The petition seeks to balance student traditions with safety measures, emphasizing collaboration between students and administration. Men's soccer is gearing up for an exciting season with the installation of lights at Shaw Field, allowing for evening games. The Hoyas will host their home opener against Maryland on August 25 at 7:30 p.m. Women's soccer kicks off their season at home against Old Dominion on August 14 at 7:00 p.m. The team faces a challenging schedule, including matchups against several 2024 NCAA Tournament teams. Volleyball opens their season with the D.C. Challenge, hosting Virginia on August 29. The schedule features 29 regular-season matches, including 12 home games. Men's basketball will represent the United States in the 2025 GLOBL JAM, an under-23 tournament in Toronto this August. The Hoyas will face national teams from Brazil, Canada, and Japan, with potential participation in the gold medal game on August 17. The Georgetown neighborhood is experiencing a resurgence with new attractions and revitalized areas. The waterfront now features a public boathouse near Key Bridge and a taco-themed party boat operating from Washington Harbour.
