US Close 18 Jul 16: Events in France limited gains for global markets on Friday

US sharemarkets were mixed on Friday, although the Dow Jones managed to close at a fresh record high. Consumer stocks led the declines. Wells Fargo was the biggest drag on the S&P 500, losing 2.5% after weaker second quarter earnings. The Dow Jones index rose to fresh record highs up by 10 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index fell 0.1%, while the Nasdaq lost 4 points or 0.1%. For the week the Dow Jones rose 2%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both gained 1.5%.
