Morning Report 16 Jun 20: US stocks overcome early weakness to post modest gains

US sharemarkets rebounded from lows on Monday. Investors variously attributed the rebound to speculation of another White House stimulus package and news on the corporate bond buying program from the Federal Reserve. Restraining optimism was concern about increases in COVID-19 cases in China and some US states. After being down 762 points at the open of trade and up 286 points in afternoon trade, the Dow Jones index ended higher by 158 points or 0.6%. The S&P500 index lifted by 0.8%. The Nasdaq index was up by 137 points or 1.4%.
