US Close 16 May 16:US markets under pressure on Friday from weak results from retailers hitting confidence

US sharemarkets fell on Friday. The energy sector fell in line with lower oil prices. And retailers Nordstrom and JC Penney fell in response to lower-than-expected sales. The Dow Jones fell by 185 points or 1.1%. The S&P 500 index eased by 0.9% and the Nasdaq lost almost 20 points or 0.4%. Over the week the Dow Jones fell by 1.2%, the S&P 500 index lost 0.5% while the Nasdaq fell by 0.4%.
