We tend to define both terms too narrowly. Stewardship is based on trust. We trust God to provide for us, but perhaps more importantly, we are trusted by God to care for all of God's creation and to assist in carrying out God's mission and vision. As trustees, we are a community called to discern God's mission and interpret it into today's culture. 1 Corinthians 12:12-17, 24b-27, outlines this calling of God's people to come together to act as God's body. When it comes to our financial stewardship we are often far less eager to trust others to help us discern God's mission. Is it conceivable that we might have a couple of brothers and sisters in our faith community with whom we would hold our stewardship practices accountable?
