US Close 4 Apr 16: global markets weaker as the spotlight turns on banks and Australia

US sharemarkets fell on Tuesday as investors shifted away from equities and commodities as the US dollar rose against major currencies. The Dow Jones ended lower by 140 points or 0.8% after being down 200 points in early trade. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.9% and the Nasdaq lost 52 points or 1.1%.

Ahead: In Australia new car sales data is released. In the US, the ISM services index is released with weekly housing finance data, international trade and factory orders.
