Reflections on Communion

"Any Israelite or any alien living among them who eats any blood–I will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from his people."

Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. . . The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life."

“This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,

“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
