Carried away into exile in Babylon, the Jews found themselves displaced from Jerusalem and in the midst of a pagan society. This is exactly where the church is today in modern America. We are now living in a post-Christian era, in which society is not only indifferent but even hostile towards the church and Christianity.

We find ourselves in a situation very similar to the Jews in Babylon in the midst of a pagan society, and God’s message to them through Jeremiah, is God’s message to us today. Like the Jews in Babylon, God wants to use this as an opportunity for us to rediscover our mission to be a light in the midst of darkness. God is calling us to make a difference in our city -- to be city changers -- and Jeremiah’s message teaches us how to do that.
