Zach Bitter calls in from Phoenix, Arizona to chat with Brady about doing the podcasting circuit before going into what drew him to running, his progression in his NCAA college career and learning works and researching to adapt for ultrarunning. Zach talks about why the long run appeals to him, training solo and his breakthrough ultra season and the attention that came with it as well as his observations on the growth of ultrarunning and experience with Comrades Marathon.
Zach is the World Record holder for the 100 Mile and the 12 Hour disciplines set both on the track and shares what the experiences taught him and mental strategies to keep from any downward spiral and the structure of such a race in terms of pacing and nutrition logistics. He discusses the history of ultrarunning and the emergence of East Africans into the sport, using a high fat diet as his main source of nutrition and where it trends in the sporting landscape before going into his plans for the future.
