Morning Report 6 Mar 19: US stocks struggle to advance despite positive news

 

* US sharemarkets were up modestly on Tuesday. Shares in
Target rose by 4.7% with Kohl's up 6.8% after both retailers
delivered positive earnings guidance for 2019. But shares in General
Electric fell by 5.2% after the chief executive says free cash flow will
be negative in 2019. With an hour of trade to go the Dow Jones
index was up by 24 points or 0.1%. The S&P500 index was flat. And
the Nasdaq index was up by 14 points or 0.2%.
