S1 Episode 11: Cesar & Helen Chavez - An Unbreakable Union

Cesar Chavez is famous the world over for being a relentless labor leader and civil rights activist who spent a lifetime fighting for the rights of farmworkers and their families. For decades, he worked to get this disenfranchised group higher wages, safer working conditions, and a better life in general. But he doesn’t undertake this monumental crusade alone, not by a long shot.

 

His wife Helen may be lesser-known but the love, the support, and the devotion she has for her husband and his cause is an integral part of the positive change that occurs in the lives of thousands.

 

Together, the couple overcomes unjust arrests, death threats, raising eight children in extreme poverty, and the lifetime of pain that comes with knowing their fight for human rights and social justice may never end. Still, the Cesar and Helen Chavez love story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when two selfless individuals come together for the love of each other and the cause they are willing to die for.
