WAR of 1812 - USA's Second War for Independence

On Traveling Through History, we take a look at a war that little is known about compared to the Revolutionary War or Civil War, but in some ways has as much significance in the formation of the United States.  This was the second time The United States was fighting for its Independence from England, and where its interests were threatened by the world power.

The war of 1812 started very badly the first 2 years, with many lost battles and embarrassing situations for the new young country, but America pulled itself together towards the end of the war, and started to have some success.  The war started over English constant attacks on American ships and trade, impressment of American sailors into the Royal Navy and territorial disputes mainly along the US - Canadian border.

We take a look at a number of the major battles from the War of 1812, the Burning of Washington, D.C., the Treaty of Ghent and finally the big victory for the United States at the Battle of New Orleans.  Then we take a look at several short videos about the war.
