When thinking about how to go from doing it all on your own to sharing the load with your partner, it starts with communication. It can be as simple as you telling your husband directly how you feel and what you need from him.
Inside The Grace Fueled Marriage Method Course, we call this an “I” statement. “I feel ______(insert emotion) when______.”
“I feel overwhelmed when I see the dishes in the sick. Can you help me?”
Let’s ditch the passive-aggressive tendencies and strive to be direct in our communication. Let him know how this feeling impacts how you are able to show up for him.
“I would like to ___ (the thing he wants) without ____ (bad behavior you are doing) so that we can ____.”
“I would like to have company over without yelling at you when I’m frustrated so that we can enjoy having time with our friends.”
Remember, if he actually helps, respond in gratitude and let go of perfection. It doesn’t have to be your way, it just needs to be done.
