US sharemarkets US Close 4 Jan 17: US DOW and S&P higher after midday slump. recorded broad-based gains on Tuesday, although indexes finished off the day's highs. At the close of trade the Dow Jones index was up by 119 points or 0.6% after being up 176 points. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.9% while the Nasdaq lifted 46 points or 0.9%.
