US Close 7 Apr 17: Markets awaiting US and China meeting and jobs

 US sharemarkets lost ground during the afternoon session on Thursday. Investors await the meeting between US and Chinese leaders as well as the latest job data on Friday. There is on-going uncertainty about the progress of healthcare and tax reform strategies of the Trump administration. The US earnings season also gets underway next week. After being up 98 points at one stage, the Dow Jones ended higher by just 15 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.2% while the Nasdaq rose by 14.5 points or 0.3%.
