This mixtape is a collection of vaporwave edits I’ve discovered over the past few months. As I drive and stream Nightwave Plaza, I save any earworm that catches my ear. After a month or two, I sit down with Bandcamp open, track down each song, and finally clear out the saved screenshots from my phone. If you're interested in more examples of Vaporwave and its subgenres, check out Nightwave Plaza (https://plaza.one/), which is basically all I listen to anymore besides other DJs’ mixes. モール Ghost - Diet Pepsi American Mall Corporation - Decay Telan Devik - Edited funk part I astro television system - the purity air jordans™ - N e l l i e B a l l ゲーム Lost Traveler ロスト - バーバースリー luxury elite and SYLLABUS - i love you (remastered) luxury elite and SYLLABUS - i miss you グラウンビーフタクシー - Rising sun after the Mojave dirt disco グラウンビーフタクシー - He was the best of Venice Beach Djs グラウンビーフタクシー - Silverlake is an overrated Shithole グラウンビーフタクシー - Haven't listened to KROQ since Nineteen Ninety-Nine Telan Devik - Waiting for so long Neon Tiger - Afternoon Acquaintance Virginboy - Hotline Virgin Neon Tiger - The Player astro television system - modern electronics Unknown - Moveee Viruta Bones - Virtual Girl

This mixtape is a collection of vaporwave edits I’ve picked up over the last few months. As I drive around streaming Nightwave Plaza, I save any earworm that catches my attention. After a month or two, I sit down with Bandcamp open in a tab, track down each song, and finally clear out the saved screenshots from my phone. That’s how I found the tracks for this tape. If you're interested in more examples of Vaporwave and its subgenres, check out Nightwave Plaza (https://plaza.one/), which is basically all I listen to anymore besides other DJs’ mixes. With hardly any free time anymore, I’ve started cooking up vaporwave edits on the weekends to make the most of the few hours I get to myself. During the pandemic, I discovered Vaporwave while working from home and was instantly hooked by the often repetitive, chopped-and-screwed edits of obscure ‘80s and ‘90s tracks, which reminded me of the DJ Screw tapes I used to bump back in college—especially the random ‘80s rock or R&B songs that he would slip onto those tapes. I also dug the seemingly random Windows clipart aesthetic in much of the artwork. This tape might be a departure from my usual, but I only post bangers. These are all edits that I’ve done over the last year. The formula goes something like this: start with a pristine audio file, slow it down until it sounds "right", then experiment with different analog emulation plugins until you end up with something that could fit on a screw tape (“It’s goin’ down!”). Lastly, give the artwork a similar treatment, and you’re all set. If you're interested in more examples of Vaporwave and its subgenres, check out Nightwave Plaza https://plaza.one/ which is basically all I listen to anymore besides other DJs’ mixtapes. If you're new to DJ Screw and what I’m referencing, here’s a perfect example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6jKtTVtvdw. Blog Era Rap pt.2

For me, the aughts consisted of lots and lots of virtual crate-digging. I found so much great stuff back then that I ultimately bought a controller and resumed DJing after something like a 15-year break. For this mix, I combed through joints I collected mostly during what is now called the blog era. These are gems that have survived countless hard drive purges over the years and currently live in a folder named "Indie Rap" because I can't think of a better genre name. Since I’m wrapping this little series up so quickly, I dusted off some tasty unreleased Kanye joints to close it out. Shad - Out Here (Cannonball) Retro Sushi - Grand Slam Royal Flush - Worldwide Tanya Morgan - Never 2ndary Lupe Fiasco - Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free) Curren$y ft. Young Roddy - Lysol Action Bronson - Brand New Car Trae, H.A.W.K. & Pimp C - Swang (Cy Fyre Remix) Kidz In The Hall - Don't Stop N.E.R.D. - Tape You Bernie Worrell - I'll Be with You M.E.D., Blu and Madlib ft. MF DOOM - Knock Knock Tommy Wright III - Newsflash (Creep at Night) Pimp C ft. Webbie & Lil Boosie - Hit the Parking Lot Ugly God - I Beat My Meat Air vs Mike Jones - La Femme D'Monsieur Jones (Hood Internet) Dumbfoundead - Word Kid Cudi - Cleveland Is the Reason Frank Ocean - We All Try Aloe Blacc - Bailar De La Soul ft. Snoop Dogg - Pain Ye: Judy Blue Eyes

There are some interesting folks on a few of these songs, from a teenage A-Trak to Kendrick Lamar and Philly's own Freeway. Keeping with the blog era spirit, I left some of the details for you to Google on your own, if interested. As usual, I selected nothing but gems and bangers para la gente. Obscure Disorder - Last Call Cocaine 80s - Chainglow Doughboyz Cashout - Hot Tubs and Cristal 100s - 1999 Action Bronson - Contemporary Man Kia Shine - Krispy Emanon - More Than You Know Black Hippy - Shadow of Death State Property - The Reunion Meth, Ghost & Rae - Our Dreams Retro Sushi - Who's That? Curren$y - We Made It Jedi Mind Tricks - Retaliation L The Head Toucha - Too Complex Kwest Tha Madd Lad - Lubrication Kidz in the Hall - Wheelz Fall Off ('06 Til) Shad - It Ain't Over
