She was married to Dan Broderick, a successful attorney, with whom she had four children. The couple's marriage ended in a contentious and acrimonious divorce in the late 1980s, after Dan left Betty for his assistant, Linda Kolkena.Betty's behavior following the divorce became increasingly erratic and obsessive. She repeatedly harassed her ex-husband and his new wife, even after multiple restraining orders were issued against her. In 1989, Betty Broderick broke into her ex-husband's home and fatally shot both Daniel and Linda as they slept.The case received widespread media attention and became the subject of books, a TV movie, and a television series. Betty Broderick was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder in 1991 and is still serving a sentence of 32 years to life in prison.
