Episode 3: Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

Dec 13th, 2019 11:57 AM

On this third episode of Discuss All Monsters, we delve just a tiny bit further into the Toho catalog by talking about Godzilla Raids Again, the hastily-put-together sequel to the classic original, featuring a debut performance by everyone's favorite spiky fella Anguirus! Here, Wyatt and Nicky talk about some of the production history behind this film as well as their opinions on this often overlooked entry. Episode 2: Gojira (1954)

Nov 15th, 2019 6:10 AM

Part two of the debut episode! In Discuss All Monsters, we will be talking about all manner of kaiju film, particularly the productions headed up by Toho. The first part of the discussion of this movie was about the history behind the film's creation, which was IMMENSE. This time around, we actually discuss the content of the film and talk about its themes, characters, and brilliant special effect work. Join us for a nice meaty discussion of this legendary film, and join us next time when we talk about Godzilla Raids Again and the rest of Toho's monster catalog! A bulk of the commentary on the film's production from this episode can be owed to David Kalat's great commentary of the film and its American counterpart, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" featured on the Criterion Collection's release of Godzilla, released in 2012. Episode 1: The History of Gojira (1954)

Oct 19th, 2019 10:34 AM

The debut episode! In Discuss All Monsters, we will be talking about all manner of kaiju film, particularly the productions headed up by Toho. In this inaugural episode, we will be discussing the monster that started it all, Godzilla in his debut film, "Gojira". (It's interchangeable at this point, please don't get angry.) This film is SO enormous in its weight and significance, however, that we're splitting up this discussion into two episodes. This first episode is about the history of the film: how it got made, the culture surrounding the film, and the manner of its international release. Next month's episode will be about the film itself and what it all means, and how it's still deeply affecting to this very day. Every film we discuss from this point onward is going to be covered in just one episode however, so don't get too worried. A bulk of the commentary on the film's production from this episode can be owed to David Kalat's great commentary of the film and its American counterpart, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" featured on the Criterion Collection's release of Godzilla, released in 2012. You can find Nicky at @Anti_Laser on twitter, and at their YouTube channel. You can find Wyatt at @WazpRanger on twitter, and at his YouTube channel.
