No Risk, No Reward | TREVOR THOMPSON
Risk is something everyone is exposed to whether you’re simply driving to work or jumping out of airplanes and off rocks, like my guest, Trevor Thompson does. And, with as much exposure to risk and the inherent dangers that come with it we expose ourselves to, you’d think we’d spend more time considering the risks we’re taking and how to mitigate more of it. Today, we talk about objectively evaluating readiness, learning to respect dangerous activities, how to increase and improve focus in risky situations, and how to limit risk and maximize reward. “People ask me if I’m an adrenaline junkie. I’m an experience junkie. I collect experiences and my life goes on.” Tweet That— Trevor Thompson Trevor Thompson Gentlemen, my guest today is Trevor Thompson. He is a former Navy SEAL and self-proclaimed “experience junkie” (not to be confused with an adrenalin junkie). He is a skydiving, base jumping adventurer. And, as I was visiting with my friend, Jack Carr, Trevor stopped by for a spur of the moment conversation and I thought talking about the risks he takes in his life and how he’s learned to overcome fear and reduce exposure would be a perfect conversation to share with you. “The decisions people make when base jumping is what keeps them alive or kills them.” Tweet That— Trevor Thompson Show Highlights What it means to be an “experience junkie” Why focus is crucial to your success How to face your fear when you’re taking big risks How to into extreme sports How to mitigate risk but still enjoy risky activities Learning to respect dangerous activities How habituating decisions causes unforeseen risk How to objectively evaluate your readiness Why mentors and coaches are crucial How the concept of “time dilation” affects your performance What skills do and don’t cross over into extreme activities “Luck is not something you want to rely on.” Tweet That— Trevor Thompson Legacy If you’ve been listening for any amount of time, you know that I believe it’s no surprise that our boys are facing an uphill battle. In fact, if you look at the statistics, you can clearly see that boys are falling behind on some very serious and alarming metrics from academics, to depression and suicide, drug abuse, violence, criminal activity, college rates, and income to name a few. If you’re a father of a boy between the ages of 8-15, we want to equip you with the tools you’ll need to usher your son into manhood. And, that’s exactly what we’re doing at our second Legacy Experience on April 11th-14th, 2019. All you have to do is get to Las Vegas with your son and we’ll take care of the rest from food and transportation to an array of physical, mental, and emotional challenges all designed to push and test both of you, forge deeper connections, and help your son go from boy to man. How to be Funny and Why You Should Care | KEITH YACKEY
No one ever accused me of being funny but that doesn’t mean I don’t see the value of humor and comedy in life and in society in general. Today, I’m joined by my good friend, Keith Yackey, who over the past couple of years has transitioned from the corporate stage to the comedy stage. Today we talk about why fear keeps us from doing great things, why we as a society need comedians, the power of instant feedback on our path to growth, and how to be funny. “Everybody can get to a degree of being funny. It’s a skill like anything else.” Tweet That— Keith Yackey Keith Yackey My guest today is my friend, Keith Yackey. He’s been extremely successful in the corporate and event world, building an 8-figure investment firm in just two short years. It’s something that has always been fascinating (and scary) to me so, to watching Keith go from, comedy newcomer to performing in some of the biggest comedy clubs in the world, has been incredible to watch. I hope you enjoy today’s conversation with Keith as he shares with us how to become funnier and why it’s so important. “There are so many things I’ve learned from stand-up comedy. Rise Above the Victim Mentality | TRAVIS MILLS
A couple months ago when I was out in Maine, I had the opportunity to sit down with an absolutely incredible man who went from lying nearly dead on the battlefield of Afghanistan to losing portions of both his arms and legs to now running an organization dedicated to serving and developing injured members of our military. His name is Travis Mills and today, he talks with us about choosing your attitude and approach towards life, maintaining composure in chaos, learning how to ask for and accept help, and how to rise above the victim mentality. “A big reason I can have the attitude I have is because I don’t see myself as handicapped or someone with a disability.” Tweet That— Travis Mills Travis Mills My guest today is an absolutely incredible and inspiring man. Become the Hunter | DONNIE VINCENT
As many of you know, I have begun to immerse myself more deeply in the world of hunting. I’ve always been fascinated with the life and mindset of a hunter but never grew up being too exposed to it. Now that I am, my mind has been opened to what it truly means to be not only a hunter but a conservationist as well. Today, I am joined by a man I have been watching for a long time, Mr. Donnie Vincent. He is a film-maker, a conservationist, a hunter, and one of the most trusted voices when it comes to the symbiotic relationship between the hunter and the hunted. We talk about we have not evolved out of hunting, how ignorance around hunting is hurting all of us, how to become better stewards over our resources, and how to become the hunter. “You cannot rescue anyone or anything from too far a distance.” Tweet That— Donnie Vincent Donnie Vincent My guest today is Donnie Vincent and he is someone I deeply admire and respect regarding his work with the wilderness. This is a man who has truly immersed himself in the connection with nature and is one of the leading voices and champions of sustainable and ethical hunting. He is a biologist, hunter, explorer, conservationist, sportsman, and filmmaker. But one of his most powerful pursuits from my perspective is that of “storyteller.” Donnie creates amazing films documenting his journey into the wilderness, his connection with nature, and the hunts he pursues. If you’ve ever considered hunting (or already are), following Donnie should be an absolute requirement. “I’m either working out, grocery shopping, or I’m in the woods trying to get groceries.” Tweet That— Donnie Vincent Show Highlights Why we should pursue our passions How to become a good steward over our resources The problems with factory farming Why we have not evolved out of hunting Why we need to give back to nature The relationship between the hunter and the hunted The seriousness and gravity of the role of a hunter How ignorance around hunting is hurting all of us How to rectify the odds between hunting and conservation The symbiotic relationship between everything Why we owe it to the animal to become the best hunter possible Why we should not pick sides as a hunter or non-hunter How we can better self-regulate The power of asking serious questions about food sustainability Why education is the core of conversationism “Hunting has always been at the forefront of my mind. When I was a kid, it was literally all I ever thought about.” Tweet That— Donnie Vincent The Other Side “[Hunting] is a good engagement all around if done responsibly, if done with a conscience, and always having an idea of where you are and how you’re engaging with the wildlife.” Tweet That— Donnie Vincent Legacy One direction the Order of Man has gone that I did not anticipate it going when we launched 4 years ago is turning around and offering a hand to the boys who we would have become men. DAVID GOGGINS | Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds
The mind is a powerful thing. It can be used as a tremendous source of good or a tremendous source of destruction in your life. The way you choose to train and use it could, quite literally, be the only thing keeping you from accomplishing your greatest ambitions. Today, I am joined by former Navy SEAL, ultrarunner, endurance athlete, wildland firefighter, and all-around badass, David Goggins. We talk about staring down adversity, using challenges as the fuel to propel yourself forward, the sacrifices you’ll need to make to be successful, race issues and political correctness in America, and how you can master your mind and defy the odds. “I’m not trying to gain some stardom or fame, or some shit. Gentlemen, set this one on repeat as David and I have one of the most powerful conversations I’ve ever been part of. “I spend my time trying to focus on how to better myself to continue on my journey to be a better person in life.
