Dear Danny: Should my boyfriend give me money?
Ladies (gender-inclusive),It’s that time of the month! Danny’s back and we’re answering seven questions today. We have a will-they-won’t-they (on a trivia team), stoner in-laws who want to take care of the baby, a new kind of depression, a little choir drama, an annoying friend who wants to take a roadtrip, a guy who won’t help out his broke girlfriend, and someone who’s being extorted by her mailman (lol). Great stuff this month!!Danny’s headshot as promised in the intro of this episode:Thanks for listening!Haley Thank you for subscribing. Leave a comment or share this episode.
The "kid divide" among friends, PART 2!
Hey!This is a followup episode to my original conversation with my bff Michelle Uranowitz in September 2023, two months before I gave birth, in which we discussed our fears around how my transition to parenthood might affect our friendship (and how it already had). Today we’re discussing how all of it’s gone! How our feelings have evolved, what’s worked and what hasn’t, and generally how we’re thinking about “the kid divide” now that we have more experience with it.We also talk quite a lot about what happened in the comments of my newsletter on Sunday, which I was feeling pretty anxious about when we recorded this conversation on Monday.Links to things we mention:“Adorable Little Detonators,” by Allison P DavisOur knitting vlog (lol)Thanks so much for listening!Haley Thank you for subscribing. Rethinking "disordered eating"
Hey!In light of the obsession with thinness that appears to have reclaimed the mainstream, in this voice note I talk about my former food issues and something that happened recently that brought some of the memories back. As I mentioned in 15 Things last week, I’m currently reading (and loving) Dead Weight by Emmeline Clein, a collection of essays on hunger and harm, and I reference it throughout this episode.A couple warnings: This ep discusses eating disorders and calorie restriction, and if you’re not in the mood to think about that, totally get it. Also want to acknowledge that this episode can’t address everyone, including people who have to restrict for various health reasons and/or have had a different experience with restriction. All that said, would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for listening,Haley Thank you for subscribing. Leave a comment or share this episode.
Dear Danny: I caught my deli guy having sex on my bed
Hey!Welcome back to Dear Danny. This ep is the circus round: we have a husband with a restless leg, a baby with a big head, a hideous gifted necklace, a cat-sitting situation gone deeply wrong, post-flirting regret, and a date with bad shoes. Covering all the most important stuff this week! Thanks for being the best question-askers in the world.Love ya,Haley Thank you for subscribing. Leave a comment or share this episode.
Voice Note: Divorcées vs. trad wives
Hey!Back today with a short voice note on something I’ve been considering writing about: whether we’ve taken “the personal is political” too far. This one is inspired by “Reader, I Divorced Him,” that recent divisive piece by Hermione Hoby in Book Forum in which she critiques the spate of divorce memoirs and novels that have come out in recent years. It’s also inspired by the trad movement as well as some things I’ve been experiencing in my personal life. The ideas in this ep are exploratory and probably a little underbaked, so I welcome all perspectives! Thanks for listening,Haley Thank you for subscribing. Leave a comment or share this episode.
