The Time We Were Stuck in Hurricane Helene. Chat with Kristin Giacopelli: Part 1
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit carolinedooner.substack.comHello! I really am sorry for all of these delays in posting. I’ve gotten very bad at doing stuff. My first excuse was a 5-week engagement, my second was the first trimester of a pregnancy, and now my excuse is a miscarriage that has taken forever, and wiped me out in every way.But I’m trying to get better at doing stuff again, as the fog and grief slowly lifts. This is a conversation Mike and I had with our friend Kristin. Our intention was to talk to her so we could share her Jesus testimony with you. But then we spent the first hour of the conversation telling the story about how we all met in person: escaping Hurricane Helene, and how we almost didn’t escape after destruction hit, and all the roads were destroyed.I’ll release her testimony soon for free listeners. However, if you’re a paid subscriber you don’t have to wait. You can watch the whole 4 hour (unedited! sorry!) video recording below, if you want to hear her story now.Enjoy!
How I Ended Up Marrying the Guy Who Wouldn't Kiss - Our Relationship Story
(If you want to skip the intro, my conversation with Mike starts around the 10 minute mark.)I could have titled this something basic like, “Our Relationship Story,” but I decided to go with the more salacious title. Marketing 101, you know. But it’s true. I did not want to date him because I thought he was way too extreme. But life/God had other plans. So today we are telling our story.Context for those who follow on instagram: We recorded this 2 months ago. Right before we found out we were pregnant (like, days before). And I haven’t edited it until now because I was very sick for a while. We’ve since, and very recently, learned that we are (almost definitely) experiencing a miscarriage, which I’ve shared on instagram. It’s devastating and we are still in some limbo waiting for the follow up ultrasound, but getting to work on my outstanding projects has been a coping mechanism and distraction. The only reason I’m sharing that sad news right now, and in the intro to this episode, is because for the people who already know from instagram, I felt like I should give context for what you are going to hear in this episode, and when it was recorded. On second thought, I probably didn’t need to do that. I probably just needed to share that I recorded this 2 months ago. Boom. Done. But I already recorded the intro. Then, during the intro I witnessed some kind of bird nest drama outside my window, and the intro became longer and more insane than it needed to be.In this episode I reference:My first interview with Mike where he shares his testimony:Enjoy! Want to try out sobriety? Listen to my chat with Christy Osborne
Hello! Today I’m chatting with Christy Osborne, author of the book Love Life Sober, and co-host of the But Jesus Drank Wine! podcast, and we talk about both of our journeys to sobriety (mine was accidental!). We are talkin’ sobriety and God.Her new book Live Life Sober: A 40-Day Alcohol Fast to Rediscover Your Joy, Improve Your Health, and Renew Your Mind, is an approach to sobriety that is God and gospel-centered, focusing on how important it is to find fulfillment in God instead of alcohol (otherwise, we will just replace the vice with another!) and a gentle, grace filled approach.I hope you enjoy the conversation, no matter what your relationship with alcohol is.Find her book here: Love Life SoberFind my testimony on her podcast here!
