#22 Notes on (Remote) Team Leadership
Leading a team, especially for the first time, presents us with interesting challenges. Great! That gives us opportunities to grow, help others in meaningful ways, and discover superpowers we didn’t know we had. Joost, Tom, and Brian take the opportunity of Tom’s new job to discuss how these opportunities take shape, how they challenge us, and which tools can help us succeed. We cover topics like leadership by example, dealing with organizational politics, and managing team (members’) performance. Enjoy! 🙏🏼 Key Topics Setting expectations, intention, design principles, task relevant maturity, empathy, vulnerability, one on one’s, toxicity, multidirectional management References OKR’s (objectives and key results) Tuckman’s model of team development Five dysfunctions of a team Influence vs. authority Psychological safety, why and how to Successful one on one’s Philips Debuts Facial Analysis Algorithms for Better CPAP Mask Choices Get in Touch Download or subscribe to this show on our website, email us at sop@purposedesign.nl, or tweet us @shotsofpurpose 😊
#21 Remote Together. How to Stay Social while Distancing.
In some ways, this is an exciting time to be alive. Joost and Brian speak with Reinout Bosman, trainer, speaker, and opera tenor currently living in Florence, Italy. Together, we explore the idea that crisis brings change - we can either shut down or step up and follow new opportunities. We discuss best practices for conducting classes or workshops online, social rituals like 'Whatsapperitivo' to stay in touch with friends, and how we can enrich our lives by confronting our confining convictions. Our journey passes along purpose, ventures into vulnerability, and careens around courage, creativity, connection, and love. 🙏🏼❤️ Key Topics Remote workshops, Intention, design sprints, digital collaboration tools, love vs. fear, empathy, vulnerability, humanity, being present, facilitating References Zoom video conferencing Blackboard e-learning Find Your Why - Simon Sinek Maya Angelou Oprah Winfrey The Seat of the Soul - Gary Zukav Dare to Lead - Brené Brown Get in Touch Download or subscribe to this show on our website and email us at sop@purposedesign.nl 😊

#19 Health Insurance, Gamified
Health Insurance, Gamified Health insurers, like a.s.r. Vitality, are using data from wearables like Fitbit and Apple Watch to give healthier people discounts. This makes a lot of sense: if you’re healthier, you’re less likely to need medical care, which means an insurance company is less likely to have to pay medical bills. But what could go wrong? In this episode, Joost talks about his life with a.s.r. Vitality and discusses with Brian the benefits and potential pitfalls with gamified health. We discuss privacy, ethical design, and behavior change, pondering the influence of economics on service design & how we can help systems like these work the way we intend them to. Key Topics Health, insurance, digital personhood, data ethics, consent, behavior change, behavioral design, Agile development, wearables, mobile apps, privacy, security, information design References Eerlijke geld wijzer (Dutch) Fair Finance Guide (international) Ethical design manifesto, Ind.ie Ethical design checklist Indistractable, Nir Eyal Never split the difference, Chris Voss Get in Touch Download or subscribe to this show on our website or email us at sop@purposedesign.nl 😊
