But as Israelite loyalty begins to grow for the giant-slayer, Saul does all he can to keep him in a lowly position. Story synopsis: After years of warring factions and corruption of the priests and prophets, the Israelites demand that God give them a king. Despite the warning of the prophet Samuel, King Saul is anointed. While Saul is a great warrior and leader, God is angered when he unlawfully offers a sacrifice and disobeys divine instruction. Learning that the kingdom will be taken from him, Saul becomes increasingly paranoid.
