Evangelism in Acts 17: The Gospel to Pagan Philosophers
Evangelism in Acts 17 is the sixteenth episode in our series looking at the evangelistic encounters found in the Book of Acts. Did Paul forget to mention the name of Jesus at speaking at the Areopagus in Acts 17? Was he ashamed of Christ or the scriptures? Did he even share the Gospel with these Polytheists? These are all challenges our team has heard or read from Christians who take Paul to task for his failures at Mars hill in Acts 17. But are their critiques justified, or is there more going on in this passage that some are missing? The evangelism in Acts 17 was crucial to the biblical evangelism training the Engage 360 developed. When we developed our training approach for Engage 360, we did not focus on what verses can be used to explain the Gospel. Instead, we looked to the Bible and asked the question, “What did they actually do?” Below is the summary of their approach. G: Gauge your audience O: Offer common ground S: Shift to Christianity and the Gospel P: Provide evidence E: Explain the Gospel L: Leave with a clear next step After listening to our podcast on Evangelism in Acts 17, if you would be interested in our team coming to your church or group to provide more training on biblical evangelism and how to apply it today, please fill out our contact form. Evangelism in Acts 16: The Conversion of Lydia and the Philippian Jailer
Evangelism in Acts 16 is the fifteenth episode in our series looking at the evangelistic encounters found in the Book of Acts. In this episode, Matt and Tricia Scribner discuss the evangelism in Acts 16 which covers a range of several fascinating events. The chapter starts with Paul, Silas, and Timothy setting out on a missionary journey. Paul receives a vision to go to the Macedonian church and they set out. In Philippi they experience the conversion of Lydia and, after being arrested, the conversion of the Philippian jailer. The evangelism in Acts 16 is a good example of how God uses the faithfulness of His disciples to bring the Gospel to others, even through suffering! When we developed our training approach for Engage 360, we did not focus on what verses can be used to explain the Gospel. Instead, we looked to the Bible and asked the question, “What did they actually do?” Below is the summary of their approach. Evangelism in Acts 15: The Gospel Implications of the Jerusalem Council
Evangelism in Acts 15 is the fourteenth episode in our series looking at the evangelistic encounters found in the Book of Acts. In this episode, Matt and Tricia Scribner discuss the Gospel implications of the Jerusalem council. While there is not a direct evangelistic in Acts 15, we decided that the motivations for and implications of this council have significant implication for evangelism going forward as Christianity spreads into the Gentil world. When we developed our training approach for Engage 360, we did not focus on what verses can be used to explain the Gospel. Instead, we looked to the Bible and asked the question, “What did they actually do?” Below is the summary of their approach. G: Gauge your audience O: Offer common ground S: Shift to Christianity and the Gospel P: Provide evidence E: Explain the Gospel L: Leave with a clear next step After listening to our podcast on Evangelism in Acts 14 on the Gospel implications of the Jerusalem council, if you would be interested in our team coming to your church or group to provide more training on biblical evangelism and how to apply it today, please fill out our contact form. Evangelism in Acts 14: Paul and Barnabas Reject Worship
Evangelism in Acts 14 is the thirteenth episode in our series looking at the evangelistic encounters found in the Book of Acts. In this episode, Matt and Joshua focus on a series of events that occur with Paul and Barnabas in Iconium and Lystra. This incredible series of events involves Paul and Barnabas sharing the Gospel, performing signs, being worshipped as Gods by the Greeks at Lystra, and then getting stoned. Matt and Joshua consider several elements that teach us about evangelism in Acts 14. One unique aspect that adds credibility to the message of the Apostles is that they remain humble ambassadors even when given the power to do incredible signs. The Greeks worship them as Gods due to the signs calling them Zeus and Hermes. Not do Paul and Barnabas reject this worship, they tear their garments in lament! There is also helpful discussion about how we can end up with a related challenge today when we put people or churches over Christ and the Gospel. The question is who is, “What is your faith in, Christ or something else?” When we developed our training approach for Engage 360, we did not focus on what verses can be used to explain the Gospel. Instead, we looked to the Bible and asked the question, “What did they actually do?” Below is the summary of their approach. G: Gauge your audience O: Offer common ground S: Shift to Christianity and the Gospel P: Provide evidence E: Explain the Gospel L: Leave with a clear next step After listening to our podcast on Evangelism in Acts 13 and the death of Herod, if you would be interested in our team coming to your church or group to provide more training on biblical evangelism and how to apply it today, please fill out our contact form. Evangelism in Acts 13: Paul speaks in the synagogue
Evangelism in Acts 13 is the twelfth episode in our series looking at the evangelistic encounters found in the Book of Acts. In this episode, Matt and Joshua focus on a fascinating encounter Paul and Barnabas have with Jews while sharing the message of the Gospel in the synagogue. In the first section Acts 13, Paul and Barnabas are summoned by the proconsul of Salamis, Sergius Paulus. However, they were opposed by a magician and false prophet named Bar-Jesus who wanted to keep the proconsul from the faith. Paul is filled with the Holy Spirit to call out the false prophet and then miraculously to make him blind for a time. After this the proconsul believed in the teaching of the Lord. The bulk of the chapter then focuses on the speech that Paul gives after being invited to share in the Synagogue. We see Paul integrate several of the elements of the GOSPEL acronym while doing Evangelism in Acts 13. He masterfully weaves the context and content of the Gospel by starting with the choosing of Israel as God’s people and touching on major points of Jewish history leading up to death of Jesus. Paul then explains that in condemning Jesus to death on a cross, the people both misunderstood the prophecies and ended up fulfilling them. Yet this was the plan of God and in the resurrection, Jesus is vindicated as the one identified in the messianic prophecies. When we developed our training approach for Engage 360, we did not focus on what verses can be used to explain the Gospel. Instead, we looked to the Bible and asked the question, “What did they actually do?” Below is the summary of their approach.
