Harriet Tubman is quoted as saying: “I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more, if only they knew they were slaves.”
When I look back at my life during that time, I see that I actually wasn’t free at all. I was playing a part, pretending to be free...but actually I was a slave. I was playing the role of a free person when inside I was empty and tired and hopeless. If I could go back in time, I would cup my hands under my chin, look into my eyes and tell that younger version of myself that finding freedom in Christ doesn’t mean we are free TO sin, it means we are free FROM it.
