Chelsea Carbonell, wife of professional BMX rider Nick Bruce, is on today’s episode. In 2012, Nick won the Free Flow Tour BMX dirt championship (an amateur contest), which earned him automatic entry into Dew Tour preliminaries, launching him into the world of riding BMX professionally. Nick is known for landing the first flair tailwhip to tailwhip back (flair windshield wiper) and for landing the first 360 double tailwhip to downside tailwhip. 4 years ago he qualified to be one of the first BMX riders to ever compete at the Olympics - BMX’s first year as an Olympic sport, and has been selected for the 2024 Qualifier Series for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
Chelsea and I discuss competition nerves, the dramatic nature of a BMX career, and some classic books that are always worth going back to reread.
