The concept of a
lake of fire predates orthodox Christianity by more than 1,250 years. The concept of a lake of fire appears in the ancient 'Egyptian Book of the Dead'. In approximately 300B.C., some Hellenized Jews living in Egypt embraced the concept and passed it on to the Early Christians.
Revelation 20:14-15, "...
Then Death and Hades* were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire". [NKJV]
