Economist, writer and broadcaster David McWilliams is renowned for his accurate predictions and forecasts of the economy both at home and abroad and this week David joined Jarlath during the Web Summit to discuss his experiences at top financial institutions before leaving it all behind him. David discusses how a low moral compass was at the heart of him getting a job in the biggest bank in Europe, the need to find resilience against fragility, being laughed at for his predictions which have later proven correct and how the very essence of economics is backwards.
David also talks about the importance of failure, the extreme lengths his father went to as a means of saving face, the night Brian Lenihan arrived at his door seeking advice and what Ireland's big weakness is. And finally we hear his thoughts on current social trends, the new property crisis and the strongest tip he has in his arsenal.
