Editor-in-Chief of AJP-Cell, Professor Josephine C. Adams (University of Bristol, UK) in conversation with the winner of the AJP-Cell Paper of the Year 2015 Award, Dr. Anna Vainshtein (now at Baylor College of Medicine, USA), and her PhD supervisor Dr. David A. Hood (York University, Canada).
This podcast explores the major findings of the 2015 AJP-Cell Physiology Paper of the Year "Role of PGC-1α during acute exercise-induced autophagy and mitophagy in skeletal muscle". The authors explain how they came to study the effects of exercise on stimulating the breakdown of dysfunctional mitochondria in skeletal muscle. The authors and Editor-in-Chief discuss possible future research and Dr. Vainshtein shares her thoughts for other junior investigators on choosing a postdoctoral research project after completing a PhD.
